World’s Thinnest High-Brightness LED-Chip to Launch in 2008

LED chips form a more of a fashion statement than of necessity. Considering this aspect of usage, Seoul Semiconductor has lately unveiled a new chip-LED, WH108. Measuring 1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.17mm, it is 15% slimmer than the industry’s current chip-LEDs. Touted as world’s thinnest against its size, it executes at an implausible luminous intensity of 240 mcd at a current 5 mA, almost two-fold brightness offered by much available chip-LEDs.
It also features improved thermal distinctiveness to sustain its functioning in challenging environments. Wafer-type substrate advances the optical competence with outstanding luminous concentration and thermal uniqueness. Sample chip-LEDs would be available in white, blue and green shades before the year ends and bulk production will commence only in first quarter of 2008.
