Well, almost a year after the first appearance in American stores is announced the availability of iPhone in our country. Actually, since we do not miss anything ever, Italy will (unless new agreements yet to announce) the only country to have the smartphones of Cupertino proposed by more than one carrier without that agreement of exclusivity that has characterized so far trade policy desired by Steve Jobs. And, of course, without revenue sharing.
But the belpaese, as we all know, is a particular market: some say is, as regards mobile phones, the most advanced in the world, others say simply that it is strange and complicated.
Mark Hoekstra of Geek Technique wrote an interesting post that shows how you can use the ‘iPhone as a web server in stock, using the port lighttpd for smartphone of Cupertino. For those who do not know him, lighttpd is an Open Source web server that can run on machines that do not allow a high speed of execution, ensuring good performance.
Mark has used the iPhone during a maintenance to its web servers, configuring Lighttpd to show a static page containing some information about the current state of the site.
Within three hours this mini-server has served this page to 411 unique visitors, not bad for a device which was not at all designed for this use.
iPhone is also able to run the Apache Web server, but lighttpd in these conditions is a software that guarantees improved performance, needing less resources.
More than 10 million. According to an analyst for RBC, the iPhone that Apple will sell by 2008 could well be 14 million, but will have to change strategy.
To contribute to success, to say RBC, will be different - and rather obvious - factors such as support for the 3G, the spread in more countries, the policy choice for the sale of applications and openness to business market. But the real turning point will come from another possibility, namely with the reduction (or elimination) of the constraints that bind iPhone exclusivity to a single operator. And indeed it seems that the prophecy is being true, considering that just this morning that both Vodafone Tim have finally dry issued press releases announcing the landing in Italy “melafonino.”
According to RBC, all these innovations will first impact the increase in sales in the old continent, could double or even triple. And if we add to this the discounts that could possibly provide managers, perhaps for the very wall of 10 million is not impossible to be killed.

After Tim, the second Italian carrier announced the forthcoming availability of iPhone on Italian soil. In a press note the operator announced that later this year [sic] iPhone will be purchased from Vodafone customers in Australia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey .
It profiles, therefore, a bid to two operators for our market.
We are awaiting confirmation from Apple Italy.
Stay tuned!
Telecom Italia Mobile has sent out a press release in which announces the availability, for the current year [sic], to iPhone in their lists. The device will be equipped 3G/UMTS.
According to the main Italian newspapers, the phone should be offered in versions from 8Gb and 16Gb (but on this there is no official) and should be thinner than current closer to the thickness of the iPod touch. The date was set for June.
Update
And ‘available online on the site Telecom Italia, the press release.
In Austria, a carrier operating on the territory announced to the press the next availability of the new version of iPhone. The Der Standard, in fact, shows that T-Mobile announced during a press conference plans to bring short of the new smartphones Cupertino in the country of oltralpe.
For unlike the scoop La Repubblica, however, it seems that what Der Standard has been confirmed officially by T-Mobile, while we TIM trincera still behind a no-comment. But T-Mobile goes further and reveals that the pricing policy of the new device will be even more flexible against the current.
It seems, then, that now there is no more doubts: in all likelihood iPhone 2.0 will be presented at WWDC or, to limit, within the framework of an event dedicated between late May and mid June.
Remember iBand, la banda of geek who played with virtual instruments installed on iPhone and iPod Touch? And remember the acronym serafica which was the background to advertise iPhone?
There is a new video that spopola networking and - let me say - is not evil. This time nothing battery, but rather two guitars and two pianos virtual both emulated with Pianist and Guitarist, installed for free through Installer.app.
What can I say, congratulations to HectorG85, the author of the video.
