Reading the various posts you can guess that the problem seems not so much a difficult opening the notebook, but that for which abgerard not want to remove the protective film placed above the key opening the MacBook Pro (really do not remember there was one, Editor’s note).

After the first recommendations, other users start to canzonarlo and take it around. The best is perhaps Grawlix who says:

You’re watching the MacBook Pro to the contrary abgerard. When you look at the notebook closed, the Apple logo on the top should be overturned.

A problem for this amusing anecdote remains unresolved: Do not know if abgerard has ever managed to open his MacBook Pro.

Problems for MacBook Pro Santa Rosa of the first generation, Several, Tech, MacBook Pro, bugs, macbook pro, problems, holy pink

A group of 63 people - but the number could rise dramatically - believes that the MacBook Pro with Santa Rosa chipset of the first generation are suffering from serious problems that lead, after a reboot or a standby, to a black screen, as if the computer refuses to recognize the presence of the display, internal or external should be. The solution proposed by Apple is pretty drastic: it involves the replacement of the logic board.

The problem is especially serious because there is no artifice software, reset the PRAM / NVRAM / PMU or restore firmware that seems sanarlo. According to the results of debugging, it would appear that the machine wrong to identify the graphics card and then trade the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT for Intel X3100 card. The list of reported cases continues to grow and can be found on a piece of Google Spreadsheet organized for the occasion.

Apple recommends these users replacing the logic board, but this does not seem to alleviate the problem: the display of many users is black back not long after, and in most cases had now expired warranty. If you have recognised in the description, immediately reported the matter on the forum Apple, so that measures can be taken as soon as possible.

SmartSleep: Sleep and hibernate in command

SmartSleep is a Preference System, used to determine how the dynamic behavior of the sleep of our MacBook or MacBook Pro, regulating when and how will simply standby or hibernation.

The sleep is the state of quiescence in which the computer’s memory is preserved by continuing to fuel the RAM. Instead, the sleep & hibernate - default in all portable Intel products from Apple - saves the state to disk, before proceeding with the actual sleep. The fundamental value of that system is that, in the case of replacement or battery, the computer is able to recover from where he left off with no loss of data.

The problem however is that since abbassiamo screen as the Mac actually goes on standby spend several seconds that many - myself included - are annoying. SmartSleep allows you to configure your laptop so that, for example, go easy on standby until the battery has a certain office and the entry into sleep & hibernate in case you fall below this threshold.

Free and compatible with Tiger and Leopard, you can proceed to download SmartSleep.prefPane from this page. After the download, double click on the file and install it for all users, then selected smartsleep this drawer and you’re in business.
